One Cast, One Bass – A Night to Remember

Some sessions are about persistence. Others are about timing. And then there are those rare ones where it all comes together in a single cast.
We had a fast-flowing tide pushing through the gullies, paired with a light swell—just enough to stir the water without making it unfishable. Overcast skies added a layer of confidence, especially when fishing the drop on a big 10-metre tide.
These are ideal conditions for bass fishing from the shore, especially when using soft plastic lures like the YKR Happy Eel.
Fishing the ebb, conditions aligned beautifully. The water clarity was spot on, and the bass were clearly feeding. Within the first 30 minutes, I landed four solid bass, including one thickset beauty that fought like mad in the shallow wash.
The Sugar Green colour pattern matched the slightly murky hue of the moving tide perfectly. It strikes a great balance between visibility and natural presentation—especially effective during moody, overcast conditions.
