Customer sent in his recent session, here’s what he had to say.
Sometimes the best sessions are the ones you don’t plan. I was out wakeboarding with a mate — no fishing mission, just good vibes — but I threw a rod and a few lures in the bag, just in case and turned out to be a good call.
We anchored near St Aubin’s Fort, close to a spot I’ve fished before. High tide was at 18:17 (31ft) and we were on the ebb. The water was crystal clear, and under the bright afternoon sun I didn’t get a touch — no surprise there.
As the light faded, I started working a small cove beside the fort where I’d had luck before. With last light slipping away, I tied on a rattling soft plastic — bang! A solid 45cm fish gave a proper scrap to start the night.
Then the real magic began. A full orange moon rose over the water, glowing on the calm surface. Time for the confidence lure: the 10g Purple Magic Happy Eel.
A few casts over a shallow reef, slow retrieve hugging the bottom… tap, pause — then chaos. The rod bent hard, the drag screamed, and after a cracking fight a chunky 50cm+ bass surfaced, fat and glowing under the moonlight.
A few fish, two hours before low tide — and one lure that keeps proving itself.
The Purple Magic Happy Eel: my go-to for moonlit magic.
Tight lines — and remember, always pack a rod.
